Getting a puppy is a very fun and exciting, but under all that fun there is a lot of work to be done to lay the foundation for a great family dog. You'll need to make sure you are able to have a pet that listens to basic commands as well as is able to be easily potty trained.

Fix one time

If your puppy is younger than eight or nine weeks, they will have no control over their bowels yet. This is when you watch them closely and notice that they go to the bathroom right after eating or drinking and after getting up. Make sure to match their schedule early on and take them to a place you've designated the 'potty zone' so that you set yourself up for success.

Positive Results Out

Every time your puppy goes in the right spot, make sure to make a big deal out of it. You won't be able to easily get them trained if you're only getting after them. You can give special toys or treats to your dog as a reward. As soon as your puppy goes potty where you want them to you need to verbally praise them. It's also a great idea to give a command such as 'go potty' every time you expect them to.

Keep on time

This will help you to be able to keep a close eye on them and have a clean area as well as to serve a reminder to get them outside often.

Take Them to the Potty Area Often

Depending on the age of your pet they may have to go potty many times a day. Set yourself up for success with potty training by getting them to the spot as often as possible.
